Screenwriter Richard Bensen (William Holden) has a script due in three days that he hasn't even started writing. Hiring Gabrielle Simpson (Audrey Hepburn) as his secretary, he persuades her to move in with him to help concoct ideas. Instead, the two fall madly in love while confusing their own lives with those of the scripted characters, imagining themselves in various scenes in the film. When the deadline passes and Richard and Gabrielle still don't have a script, a distraught Richard tells Gabrielle he isn't good enough for her, and she leaves--just as Richard realizes that he's made a huge mistake and needs to make things right between them. This film is shot on location in Paris by famed cinematographer Claude Renoir.
